US stocks slip as shutdown enters a third day


NEW YORK: The stock market is opening lower as a partial shutdown of the US government enters a third day.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 67 points, or 0.4 percent, to 15,065 after the first few minutes of trading on Thursday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down six points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,687. The Nasdaqcomposite fell six points, or 0.2 percent, to 3,809.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note was unchanged at 2.63 percent.

Tesla Motors fell $2.18, or 1 percent, to $178.77 after the electric car company after a rare downgrade from a financial analyst and on news of a fire involving one of its cars.
